I was talking to my mom about tumblr and how some post really irked me. She asked me why don’t I just stop following them, I try to explain that this is a community/family. Even though I disagree with some opinions it doesn’t mean I just drop them (unless you get really plain old nasty and offensive). I seem to have grown quite fond of you people. Shhhh don’t tell anyone….
I also feel this way sometimes. But I do feel connected to a lot you guys, and genuinely love all the people I follow.
My sentiments exactly. I’m sure I’ve gotten into some type of disagreement with all of the people I follow but the feelings are never hard. We’re not the same people and we’ll never agree 100%, hell, if we did that would be boring as hell because everyone’s blogs would be the same. I love my tumblr fam just the way it is, disagreements and all :D
I’m not quite sure I can agree with the abstinance of giving my patronage to somewhere that other people I disagree with shop. It is moderately akin to boycotting, but a company cannot choose it’s customers (we like to think so, but it’s all part of an illusion of the Free Capitalist World). For example, if Weezy came into the bookstore wanting a computer, I couldn’t do much to turn him away unless he starts causing some ignorance at the store. In the end, I’d sell him the laptop to aid him in creating terrible music, and I’d go home and cry about it.
I’m being facetious, but at the same time… not really. Just because corporate bankers and lawyers eat at the Quiznos across from Bank of America doesn’t make their sandwiches any less delicious. Yeah, they dress up their store to appeal to those who have money and spend it frivolously, but we can’t distance ourselves from that when “we” (and I say that as collectively as possible) also play dress up every day attempting to appeal to people of our interest.
People don’t lie when they say that Capitalism is a whore and consumers are just the patrons. Hell, while I’m playin… one of those sandwiches sounds really good right now…
It’s not that people I disagree with shop at places I like to shop, I understand I can’t control that and I don’t care to control it. The point of the matter is these business make their money from selling to “the common folk” while also attributing to luxury lifestyles of the assholes that lay off thousands of people, refuse to give disability to their workers and practically steal from us all. I never said don’t patronize them, but what I’m saying is as that I hold myself to higher standards, not buying from companies that only sell us shit to get our money (like stores that sold both McCain AND Obama shirts) but buying from companies with a cause and who wish to do my community and the world some good. The problem is I still buy from companies that have products for and market to people like me but also people like CEOs of companies who don’t give a fuck about me…and I pretty much can say the company I buy the crap from doesn’t give two shits about me, they just care about me buying their shit. I like to give my money to people I know share my interests or at least cares about people like me, you feel me?
I know this is nothing new to my tumblr fam, but our society is so full of materialistic messages, it’s crazy. Music and television feeds us the need for worthless crap that have no beneficial effect on our psyche whatsoever. Do we really need Gucci bandanas? Can we live without the Yeezy’s? Is it possible to make it a day without drooling over some luxury car when the train gets us from A to B just fine? I’ll admit I didn’t know what the hell a black mag was before I heard The Cool Kids, but I know I gotta find me a bike with some black mags on it. I’m sure if I were to ask any of you if you’re materialistic you’d say no, but every single one of us has reblogged a pair of sneakers we think we just gotta have, commented on some celebrity’s gorgeous outfit, or posted a video game/tv show we loved (and yes, video games and tv shows are material things, you have to buy the tv and the game, and pay for the network to watch the show).
It’s crazy because I personally consider myself a pretty conscious chick. I try to patronize companies like Print Liberation, Dangerous Negro, companies that are for the same causes I am and share my political and social beliefs. However, I buy shoes from the same company that sells golf balls and tennis rackets to the very same CEOs who caused the recession we’re in. I buy my groceries from the same company that laid off thousands of people over the past two years. The worst thing about it is, I know I’m doing this…I know I’m patronizing these companies that continue to hurt my very own people, I continue to listen to music that worships material objects, and I continue to reblog sneakers that I “must have” from the same company where little kids lost their childhood working under grueling conditions, but I do it anyway. We all do it. We all contribute to this vicious cycle of consumption. The money we spend on the worthless crap we buy doesn’t go back to help us. It goes to line up the pockets of some man who looks nothing like us and doesn’t give a shit about us, but we’re sooo eager to give him this money as if it is burning holes in our hands.
I don’t have the answer to this problem…everyday a bit of me struggles with it and I kick myself for it…I just don’t know why I have to try to hide my bootleg razor phone from the person with the Blackberry, my phone receives messages and calls just fine. Someday I’ll find the answer for mine and your material “needs,” but until then, there’s a pair of dunks at the Nike store that’s calling me. Ciao :)
napturality My problem with this is that he has the nerve to talk about African rappers when rappers in America are the most materialistic. Shit, I don’t even know any African rappers so I can’t vouch for what they talk about but I’m pretty sure if they are talking about money cars clothes hos it’s because of Western influence.
The problem is that he was talking about rappers in the US. He is speaking of any black rappers being African. He was referring to a version of “a milli” that he did where he disses people like Wayne, Jay Z, etc because they don’t give back to charity or at least that’s his claim. Just thought I would clarify that because I am sure you’ll find it even more obnoxious now!
Yeah Michi also explained it for me. Yeah, it is a lot more obnoxious now smh
also, wtf is wrong with me today? I’m not catching on to anything for some reason lol I feel so slow
I’m enjoying the spate of rap songs that are being released about praising their girls and their relationships. It’s a nice change of pace.
However, I worry that these songs focus too much on what the girls are doing for and not doing to these men, totally ignoring what he should be doing for her in return.
For example, I take umbrage at Neyo’s Miss Independent lyrics. The song is a nice concept, but I don’t like that he emphasizes that she has no expectations for him. Why the hell shouldn’t she have expectations? He obviously does.
I feel like these men are embracing the parts of our new roles that work for them - that we’re independent, bread winning women with careers, while still trying to keep us confined to our old domestic roles of passivity.
We’re upping our game, contributing to everything. But I don’t see the men upping their game in return. They still expect to play the same role - bring home some $$, let me have fun w/ my boys, don’t nag me, let me watch TV.
So now, we’re supposed to hold down the house, raise the kids, look fabulous doing it, AND we’re supposed to earn enough of our own money to push hot cars and rock designer gear and stay immaculately groomed?? Oh, and keep our expectations low and just be pleased when he does come through?
All they seem to be bragging about is giving us money (uh, they used to do that anyway) and giving us dick (again, already getting it) … perhaps they just don’t know what else they have to offer beyond that? Which is a sad state of affairs. Men can (do) play an important role in our lives and the lives of our children. Why do they sell themselves so short? Happy to play the unreliable foilble, eternally childish and immature, never in control of their bodies and minds? And why do we identify these characteristics as male? Flightines and unreliability used to be feminine characteristics. Men were the rock, the hard to our soft. Now? I’m not sure what role they play aside from sex and just being around and providing some masculine energy.
I feel like we’re moving forward, as women, and men are stagnant. Which sux, majorly, cause, guys, we still need you. We do. We love you.
I want to marry this album, and sleep with it every night. Not Drake; the album.
The album is hot, but you know what? Lil Wayne messes it up for me. Every song I enjoy that happens to have Lil Wayne in it I always fast forward it past his part. I LOVE the vibe the album gives off but Lil Wayne’s autotune rapping and the annoying way he says things can get edited out and I would be happy.
““When I dropped that … (I thought) ‘You guys are always going off about how much money you have. Do you realize what’s going on in this world right now?’ All these black rappers - African rappers - talking about how much money they have. ‘Do you realize what’s going on in Africa right now?’ ” Roth says. “It’s just like, ‘You guys are disgusting. Talking about billions and billions of dollars you have. And spending it frivolously, when you know, the Motherland is suffering beyond belief right now.’ “”
— -Asher Roth will not stop. The motherland is suffering…what do you know about the motherland? People in America are suffering to. There are so many things wrong with this and I have to go to class so I can’t address them all. I never liked Asher Roth but his “nappy headed hoes” comment on twitter didn’t help, and then this. I will say that Mr. Roth needs to do some reading and speak with some people who know better. Then he needs to hire a better publicist to censor his ass before he ruins everything. Read the full article here. He also claims that he’s better than most MC’s out there because he actually cares about the music and not the marketing. Ya right! Thoughts?
so basically he’s insulting individuals that worked harder than he ever will because they talk about a lifestyle they loved to achieve and have achieved… yeah all I can say is:
shut your mouth white boy!
because that’s what my grandmother would say, only in Somali or Italian, depending on her mood.
also, he can’t rap… horrible on the ears yo!
My problem with this is that he has the nerve to talk about African rappers when rappers in America are the most materialistic. Shit, I don’t even know any African rappers so I can’t vouch for what they talk about but I’m pretty sure if they are talking about money cars clothes hos it’s because of Western influence.
EVERYONE has a right to their opinions and to voice their opinions however they want, no matter whether I agree with them or not.
But just as much as you have a right to voice your opinion, I have the right to voice mine, and if you put your uninformed, biased, or misguided opinion on the internet or in any position to be critiqued or addressed, then don’t be surprised when it’s critiqued or addressed.
That is all! No hard feelings anyone, this is just how free speech works.
Oh! And let’s be clear. Opinions are NOT fact. Stating that a person hasn’t done anything is not an opinion, that is attempting to state a fact. If the person said “I don’t think he has done anything,” that would be opinion. I was only setting the fact straight.
let me clue you retards in on something, when you take office, when you take the oath which your “savior” did twice those problems BECOME YOURS. Isn’t that negating the whole “progressive thinking” bullshit you seem so proudly to wave like a flag? Is dwelling on the fucking past?
Get the fuck over it, I won’t be satisfied with your retarded president until I *SEE* some change. And I ain’t seen absolutely nothing yet.
even though this is slightly agressive, i have to agree.
People like civilianpanic, and whoever liked this and reblogged this will never actually “see” progress, because they are walking around with paper bags over their heads shouting “USA! USA!” trying to drown out news reports and presidential addresses.
The fact of the matter is there definitely has been change, you’re just too close-minded and blind to see it. OUR president has
Removed restrictions on embryonic stem cell research (via)
Removed a ban on giving federal money to international groups that provide abortions or information on abortions (via)
Done a lot of other things you’re too blind to see and too close-minded to believe
How about this, instead of using the computer you’re on right now to blog this crap, how about you use it for an actual purpose and google some of the things Obama has done since he’s been in office. And while you’re at it, google anger management counseling in your area, you need some help.
Besides vegetarians and vegans of course but damn…it’s common as hell, it’s not like it’s something no other race eats, EVERYONE eats it!! Why is it that it’s a stereotype only drawn to Black people??
Stems back from slavery, chicken and pork are always considered ‘black foods’. Especially fried chicken because black people, well slaves, were the first to fry it. They were always given the parts deemed useless and inedible by their slave owners/masters, doing with what little they had they opted to frying most of their meat, as opposed to baking it…etc. But shit, I like fried chicken just as much as the next man.
But, enslavers and their families ate chicken and pork as well, they gave the enslaved the “scraps” of the food like the intestines, gizzards, meatless bones etc, but the enslavers ate chicken and pork nonetheless.
I’m not doubting that Black people eat chicken, but what I’m doubting is that we are the only people that eat chicken. I think it should be a stereotype of all people, I think WE ALL can agree that chicken is fucking delicious.
Dave Chappelle said it best, “if you don’t like chicken, something is wrong with YOU.”
160. STOP HAVING SET "QUALIFICATIONS" FOR A BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND. BEING A LOVER IS NOT A FUCKING JOB, AND YOU’RE NOT HIRING A FUCKING EMPLOYEE. AND YES, THEY WILL MAKE MISTAKES. YES, THEY WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU EXPECTED. THEY'RE HUMAN, AND THEY HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT THEY'RE DOING. BUT THEY LOVE YOU, AND THEY LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF YOU. SO PLEASE, GIVE THEM A CHANCE.
but too much can do more damage than good sometimes
How insightful of you.
lol I swear there was a reason why I posted this…I read someone’s post that was entirely sarcastic and even though I agreed with what was said, I felt as if it came off as very arrogant and rude. Too much sarcasm is a bad thing.
oh my point did make sense People was just to slow to understand .

LMAO how about this you dumb ass, I DIDN’T CALL YOU IGNORANT!! When I said “two ignorant muhfuckas,” I said in a theoretical sense, not referring to you or anyone else in particular, but since you took offense to it, you can just keep thinking I was calling you ignorant. Shit, you say some pretty ignorant shit sometimes, especially RIGHT NOW since you assumed I called you ignorant and since you’re calling me “nappy head” and a “bitch,” so yeah, just keep thinking I was calling you ignorant lol…maybe you should get mad at all the people on Unfollow Friday calling you dumb for all the grammatical errors in your posts!
I really could give a damn what you say about me, so I’m not getting mad at all…you can go ahead and unfollow me because you misunderstood what I said. I don’t follow you anyway so it’s really no sweat off my back. Ciao!
